Ready and Anticipating 2010…

December 31, 2009 Lance Drummonds Leave a comment

Last night was one of the best nights in awhile for me. There are moments when you feel like you are on cloud nine: You look right, the music is dope, and the people around are those you are glad to be with. While I was out, I had a moment of clarity. A moment where I said, this year may have seemed rough and tough, especially in the 2nd half, but you made it and made it with flying colors. So 2010 will be nothing but improved movements, decisions, and collaborations. Take a look at your 2009 and appreciate all the difficulties that took place and realize that you’re still here. *Not to sound like Dr. Phil, but I’m ready to take on the challenges of 2010 and am looking forward to overcoming them. I’m looking forward to achieving all of my goals and you should too. GET READY, it’s the beginning of a new decade and for me, 2010 is the start of a dream that I’ve long been waiting for.

Avatar – A MUST SEE

December 23, 2009 Lance Drummonds Leave a comment

An absolutely mesmerizing, breathtaking, jaw dropping feature film. The last movie I saw that was this good, in which I saw it again in the movie theaters, was “Face-Off.” Avatar is unbelievably spectacular. More specifically, the images, the scenery, the quality of the picture, the action, had me amazed. In regards to the plot, think of it like this: “Pilgrims vs. Indians” but in a world where we could only fantasize about.  Think of it like this, whenever you were younger and imagined a world that was completely different from the one you knew, with birds that were the size of eagles, and plants that talked to you, and trees that moved, that is what the sets of Avatar look like.  It was like NeverNeverLand on CRACK!  I really can’t describe it any better without taking away from the experience, so bottom line — GO SEE IT IN 3-D and share the feelings I have.

Athletes Who Give Back?

December 23, 2009 missro416 Leave a comment

I came across this article and it touched me so much. We always hear about the indiscretions of athletes and the vapid dilemmas they get themselves into. Seldom do we hear about those who are so appreciative of the opportunities they’ve been afforded that they give back to the institutions most instrumental in propelling their careers. Other millionaire-athletes, take note!

Vikings’ Madieu Williams Donates $2M to Alma Mater
Donation creates global health initiative center

Published : Thursday, 05 Nov 2009, 9:46 AM CST

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Minnesota Vikings safety Madieu Williams is donating $2 million to his alma mater, the University of Maryland, helping form an international health initiatives center.

The donation satisfies advice given to Williams by his mother at a young age. Williams came to Maryland from Sierra Leone at the age of 9. According to a Washington Post report, Williams’ mother always said if he ever found himself in a place to make a difference, he should do it.

The University of Maryland announced the creation of the Madieu Williams Center for Global Health Initiatives. The $2 million donation from the 28-year-old Williams is the largest gift to the university from an African American alumnus and the largest amount donated by someone his age.

The university says the center will focus on local, state-wide and global health initiatives, with particular attention to public health initiatives in Prince George’s County, Maryland and Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Williams considered establishing a scholarship fund but decided to do something larger with his donation.

Mary J. Blige: “Stronger with Each Tear” – The Review

December 22, 2009 Lance Drummonds Leave a comment

The queen of Hip Hop soul is back and stronger than ever (no pun intended). This album is a feel good, head boppin’, and soulful R&B album. Each track has a rhythm that allows for a STRONG TWO STEP and shoulder juke. The passion is evident, as it usually is, in Mary’s voice and in this album. Although after a few minutes, my shoulders got tired of the juke and my two stepped slowed down, the productions from DarkChild, Stargate, The Runners, Tricky Stewart and The Dream (“Blame it on the Alcohol”), and writers such as Neyo and Brian Michael Cox kept me going.

Favorite Track: “In the Morning”

Honorable Mention: “I Feel Good”

“Dealing”
The Grammy nominated and internationally recognized independent artist, Eric Roberson and Lalah Hathaway team up to bring us such a beautiful and melodic song. The video is well done and I can’t stop singing this joint. Check this one out.
